Technology Innovation Awards
The Dartmouth Office of Entrepreneurship and Technology Transfer (OETT) Technology Innovation Awards recognize and honor outstanding inventive and entrepreneurial faculty and researchers at Dartmouth who have made societal and/or economic impact, and who exemplify driving Innovation to Impact.
These awards enable the OETT to recognize deserving innovators and inventors in the Dartmouth community. Up to three awardees are recognized during the academic year cycle.
Dartmouth Technology Innovation and Commercialization Award
This award highlights individuals who, through their inventive and entrepreneurial talents, have made strong contributions to Dartmouth and society.
2025 Recipient Dr. Paul Guyre

Emeritus Professor of Microbiology and ImmunologyVice President for Research and Discovery, Celdara Medical, LLC
With a remarkable 43-year tenure at Dartmouth, Dr. Paul Guyre has had an extraordinary impact. His work as a pioneer in bispecific monoclonal antibodies—first patented in 1986— laid the foundation for a global bispecific antibody market now exceeding $10 billion annually, projected to approach $500 billion by 2034. Dr. Guyre and Dr. Mike Fanger co-founded Medarex, whose intellectual property has led to over 40 FDA-approved therapies, saving more than a million lives.
One of the first university spin-off companies, Medarex went public in 1991 and was acquired by Bristol Myer Squibb in 2009 for $2.1B, generating revenue for Dartmouth that was used to fund multi-million-dollar research grants.
Dr. Guyre continued to teach and pursue research, leading the field in harnessing antibodies to stimulate the immune system, which paved the way for checkpoint inhibition therapies—today, a $50 billion market, expected to quadruple within a decade. With 45 issued patents and 37 more in process, Dr. Guyre exemplifies the profound impact of innovation, saving lives and transforming medicine.

This award recognizes colleagues earlier in their career (e.g., Assistant and Associate Professors) who are pursuing outstanding research, innovation, and entrepreneurial thinking at Dartmouth.
2025 Recipient Dr. Katherine Mirica

Associate Professor, Chemistry
Dr. Katherine Mirica’s groundbreaking research in materials chemistry is redefining possibilities for accessible electronic sensing devices. Her innovative experimental strategy emphasizes design and synthesis of materials aimed to meet the unique demands of low-power, portable, easy-to-use sensing devices. She is a leader at Dartmouth in connecting fundamental and applied science, studying and refining the interactions of small molecules with materials in functional devices. The methods and resulting materials could have a broad range of applications, such as in information storage, or in energy storage, conversion and catalysis.
Also, a dedicated mentor, Dr. Mirica, has guided PhD Innovation Program students and postdoctoral fellows as they navigate the path from discovery to commercialization, advancing entrepreneurial thinking on campus. With 11 Dartmouth invention disclosures, 12 U.S. patent filings, and five issued patents generating over 900 citations, Dr. Mirica’s impact extends far beyond campus and her innovations promise to benefit society in fields from microelectronics to healthcare to environmental stewardship.
